Del City Concrete, Replaced and Built to Last
If you are looking for concrete contractors in Del City, your house is very likely one of the thousands built in a short burst after World War II. Developer George I. Epperly bought a 160-acre wheat field in 1946 and named the new town for his eldest daughter, Delaphene. Residents voted to incorporate on October 9, 1948, when there were 582 homes. The population then jumped from 2,504 in 1950 to 27,133 in 1970. We replace the driveways, walks and patios from those years, and we pour new slabs, steps and stamped concrete.
Concrete from a fast build-out
When a city grows tenfold in twenty years, a lot of concrete goes in quickly. Many Del City drives and walks are now 55 to 75 years old. The common problems we see are surfaces that have worn down to exposed aggregate, driveway aprons cracked where they meet the street, and front stoops that have separated from the house. Single-car drives were standard then, and many owners now want room for a second vehicle or a pad for a trailer.
The city peaked at 28,523 residents in 1980 and has held near 22,000 since 2000, with 9,746 housing units in 2020. That steady, settled housing stock is exactly where replacement work, rather than new subdivisions, is the main kind of concrete job.
A small, fully built city
Del City covers 7.52 square miles, all land, at an elevation of 1,211 feet, about three miles east of Oklahoma City. Interstate 40 cuts through the middle, and Tinker Air Force Base borders the city. With almost no vacant land, nearly every project is on an existing lot with tight access. We plan the tear-out, the forming and where the concrete truck will park before the job starts, and we protect lawns, fences and neighboring driveways along the way.
Rebuilding after 1999
The May 3, 1999 Bridge Creek to Moore tornado entered Del City at F4 strength and heavily damaged the city. A memorial on Sooner Road honors the seven people who died here. Homes on the damaged blocks were repaired or rebuilt, and some of them got new driveways while neighbors kept older ones. Where old and new panels meet, height differences and gaps are common, and we can replace those transitions so a walk or drive is level again.
Water from Lake Thunderbird
Del City is one of three cities, with Norman and Midwest City, that Lake Thunderbird was built to supply when the Bureau of Reclamation finished it in 1965. Locally, though, the water that matters for concrete is the kind running off your roof. Eagle Lake is the only large body of water in the city, and on a flat, built-out lot runoff has few places to go. Grading a new driveway or patio so it drains away from the house is the first thing we design.

Del City Questions
Is it worth replacing a 1950s driveway in Del City?
If the surface is worn through, the apron is broken or panels are moving, replacement is usually the better value than patching. If the slab is sound and only one area has failed, a section replacement can work.
Can you work on a tight lot with no back alley access?
Yes. Most Del City jobs are on built-out lots. We plan the tear-out and pour around your driveway and street access, and use a pump or wheelbarrows when a truck can not reach the back yard.
Can you match a new section to old concrete?
New concrete is always lighter at first, but we match the broom finish, joint pattern and edge detail so the repair blends in as it weathers.
